Are We Co-Dreaming the Universe Into Being?
by Paul Levy, author of the book: The Quantum Revelation
Quantum physics is openly revealing to us the dreamlike nature of reality—the very thing that all spiritual wisdom traditions throughout history are both expressions of and have been pointing at. What if we were to really get the transmission of what quantum physics is freely offering us? How would realizing the dreamlike nature of the universe change things?
Let’s invoke our creative imagination. Let’s imagine this: You’ve become lucid in a dream, and the dream that you’ve woken up in is this collective waking dream that we are all sharing. You have realized that, as quantum physics has disclosed, you are but one of many dreamers—we are all dream characters in each other’s dreams who dream too.
A Shared Waking Dream
We are all collaboratively co-dreaming this shared waking dream into materialization moment by moment, as quantum physics points out, through countless acts of observer-participancy. What if we were to stabilize our state of lucidity—how would we then dream the (waking) dream onward with this new awareness?
For example, if upon becoming lucid, you find yourself imagining fame and fortune, being with the perfect partner, and flying up into space in your own rocket ship (not that there’s anything intrinsically wrong with any of this), I would reflect back to you that these are most likely the dreams of the smaller self, the (wetiko-inspired) fictitious identity that, having become lucid in the waking dream, you’ve now recognized is not who you are.
How would you, the real you who you’ve now discovered yourself to be, dream the dream?
Dreaming the Interconnected Dream
Having snapped out of the spell of the separate self/wetiko, you have realized that you live in a thoroughly quantum universe in which everything is interconnected with everything else and then some. Becoming lucid is to recognize your interdependence with all other beings, with all of life, with the whole universe.
I imagine that when any of us have this realization, we would naturally feel a desire to be of service to others, to the field, to the whole. And paradoxically, to serve others—because we are not separate—is to be in true service to ourselves.
Your Unique Form of Service
How would you imagine this—what would your unique form of service look like? Some of us (yours truly) might write books about what we are realizing, but this is not everyone’s thing. Others might dance their realization, or draw it, or sing it, become a quantum activist, or simply embody their realization by being as loving, passionate, and compassionate a human being as they can be.
The point is that in snapping out of our (ultimately speaking) self-induced spell, we would find our authentic voice and express what we are realizing in our own uniquely creative way. This involves nothing other than fully stepping into and being ourselves. It is only in connecting with what is most truly ourselves that the real healing is to be found.
I find myself imagining that as more of us actively step into ourselves, we can connect—get in sync—with other people who are also sharing a similar realization in a way that can help all of us to deepen our lucidity. The energetic vibration of our shared and growing realization strengthens and reinforces itself through nonlocal morphic resonance, making it—in theory if not in practice—more available for everyone to tap into.
A Quantum Leap of Consciousness
In an evolutionary, quantum leap of consciousness, we can dream ourselves awake. As quantum physics unequivocally points out, the possibility that enough of us could wake up and change the waking dream we are having is completely within the realm of the possible. Realizing that this is not only a possibility, but an evolutionary necessity, simultaneously dispells our inertia and inspires our creative spirit.
Quantum physics has revealed that, every moment, the universe—with our participation (knowingly or not)—re-creates itself anew out of the plenum, a field of immense potentiality. In the world of quantum physics, something highly improbable can be realized in actual reality in this very moment. There is a world of difference between something being, in Wheeler’s words, “incredibly, ridiculously unlikely” compared to being completely impossible. Everything can shift in an instant.
Quantum physics is shedding light on the nature of the boundary between the possible and impossible—it is questioning what was previously thought to be impossible. At the very least it is expanding the realm of the possible to degrees we can only imagine and then some.
A World of Expanded Possibilities
Living in a world with expanded possibilities inspires hope and can keep us inspired, as the possibility that this is the universe in which humanity finally wakes up instead of destroying itself is totally within the realm of possibilities according to quantum physics.
Once we see that one of the possibilities is for our species to wake up, the next step is to realize that this process has to start with us right now in this very moment, a moment in which we open our eyes to what we can possibly create—and dream—together. In seeing what is truly possible, we are on the way to creating it. For there was no possibility of achieving our dream if we didn’t see it was possible. In seeing what is possible it is like blinders have fallen off our eyes.
Dreaming Ourselves Awake
As if a compensation for, and mirror image of. the overwhelming darkness that is seemingly taking over our world, there are an ever-increasing number of us who are realizing the dreamlike nature of our quantum universe and stepping into the creative agency that is our birthright. As if a spokesperson for the quantum, Jung couldn’t emphasize enough that human consciousness is a divine instrument that has a “world-creating significance.”
The darkness in our world is potentially helping us to wake up, as light doesn’t just reveal darkness, but is revealing itself through the darkness. Everything depends on whether we recognize what is being revealed.
Why not dream ourselves awake? Good question! To quote the quantum version of John Lennon:
You may say I’m a lucid dreamer, but I’m not the only one.

The Quantum Revelation: Awakening to the Dreamlike Nature of Reality
by Paul Levy. (2nd edition, revised and expanded)
Revealing the quantum nature of our world and ourselves, The Quantum Revelation shows how quantum physics has become a modern-day spiritual path for awakening and expanding consciousness with particular relevance for the challenging times we are living through.
Explaining the world-transforming effects of quantum physics, Paul Levy shows how discoveries in this field—widely considered the greatest in the history of science—can wake us up from the disempowering spell of the reductionist, materialist worldview, thereby helping to dispel the collective madness that has befallen our species. He explains how quantum physics helps us to consciously realize our vast evolutionary potential and awaken us to the malleable, dreamlike nature of reality, a realization that unlocks the creative spirit hidden within our own minds.
